Lanikai Elementary installs 468 new PV modules
and saves approximately $5,000 a month on electricity

Kailua – Lanikai Elementary Public Charter School, with the approval of the DOE has completed the installation of 468 photovoltaic (PV) modules along with 9 SMA 10,000 TL-US inverters on our library and on one classroom building.

Adon Solar, the contractor who installed the system, has provided a state-of-the-art monitoring system. The two display monitors, one in the library and one in the front office provide real time energy tracking from the PV system. This will allow students to become engaged in hands on learning about renewable energy.

“We are doing our part to support the State’s ongoing efforts in reducing Hawai’i’s dependence on imported oil and using 70% clean energy by 2030,” said Mr. Ed Noh,

Lanikai Elementary School Director.  “The system is already showing promise to supply from 80-100% of the schools total energy usage.  Our savings per month will be approximately $5000, or $166 per day.”

The 468 CS6P PV panels, each rated at 230 watts of direct current (DC) power generating capacity, which will be generating an average of 173,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy per year and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 300,000 pounds (carbon dioxide equivalents).

The Lanikai PV project was made possible in large part by $500,000 in CIP funding which was secured by Senator Fred Hemmings and signed off on by former Governor Linda Lingle late last year. We are the first public school on Oahu to receive state funding to construct a PV system.  We would like to acknowledge HECO and Adon Solar, who partnered with us to build the system.
